After a second attempt of trying to read The Catcher In The Rye, i was just about ready to give up on it. But after J.D Sallinger died i thought, what the hell i'll give it another bash. After all the book did make the guy famous. Firstly i actually HATE the main carachter Holden Caulfield. This book is meant to relate to teenage angst yet it just seems to make the teenager in question seem completely mentally retarded, no joke. I for one can say i've never preteneded to get shot in the gut, just to amuse myself. But then again it is based in the 40's, i mean he's a 12 year old who likes to drink, i can't exactly relate to that. I suppose it's one of those books you need to read before you die just to say you've read it, and there were some very amusing and delightfully written parts. But on the whole, i feel saddened at how much i disliked this book. I've heard its not J.D. Sallinger's best work though, so there is hope.
